...and this is how you throw stones at the sea. James and his dad bond by sharing the manly art of rearranging stones on a beach.

While dad nipped up the shoreline chasing birdies, a glance back down the beach reveals James showing his Mummy just how to throw stones at the sea!

As usual, James decides that his parents don't need to wear either sunglasses or hats when outdoors and takes it upon himself to remove the offending items.

Well it's not quite 2.4 children, but we're having a happy holiday on the beach even if we are in front of the Sizewell Nuclear Power plant!

Having discovered a nice sandy patch of beach amongst the shingle James decides to start rearranging the sand as well.

James gets to grips with this great fun sandy stuff!

Needless to say, James was more than happy doing this for ages. There's a lot of sand to be moved!

After a good solid play in the sand we were absolutely covered in it. Afterwards we discovered sand in his ears, matted in his scalp and also even a few stones amongst the sand in his nappy!

As you can see here, we had a very sandy chap to deal with after his day out at the beach. The poor car seat was caked in sand for days afterwards!

James loves his new shoes and covering them with sand seems like the perfect way to show it!

A nice action shot showing just how the sand managed to get absolutely everywhere!

Out for a walk at Minsmere, James decides to take the pushchair for a stroll. He loves pushing his buggy around like this even if though he can't see where he's going!

James is definitely his own man and likes his independence. After being asked by his Mummy if he wants to get into the buggy he's off running away in the opposite direction as fast as he can!

James loved these great big doors and tried to open them up. As we were too late for the visitor centre they weren't going to open but it didn't stop his efforts.

After a walk around some of the local heathland with James couped up in his papoose, when we got back to the car it was time for a good run around and some serious happy play!

James loves throwing and playing with both his football and rugby ball. He really isn't fussed about where and when just as long as he gets some playing done so a sandy car park is as good a place as any!

James gives his Daddy a hand by putting the important things in the car.

Having wandered round the car, James looks happy that all his toys are packed away and is ready to head off.

Well seeing as Mummy and Daddy aren't ready to go, I'll just run over here and chase my shadow!

Unfortunately, Daddy managed to miss off the top of James' head in this photo but we still think it's a lovely picture!

With his shock of blond hair and his continual quest for entertainment, our little man is a joy even if he does turn into a little tinker most of the time!

Having burned just enough energy to be ready for dinner, James decides it's time for us all to go and drive to a pub for a nice spot of grub!

With a seemingly rare bit of August sunshine, Daddy and James walked on the common land by the cottage. James particularly liked the heather and managed to pull a few purple flowers from the plants.

Another walk and the rugby ball was in action yet again!

On the Wednesday, we went to meet up with some friends at a local farm park. James immediately discovered the tractors there and began pushing one round and round the grounds!

After finally tearing himself away from the tractor for a short while, James went over to say hello to some of the animals at the farm.

Both James and the goat were very friendly towards each other and they soon became best buddies!

After a brief meeting with the animals and then being stung by a nasty insect at lunch, it was time to get on with some serious tractor pushing.

It was a muggy day and with the sun trying to break through, the hat was called into action. It even managed to stay on for prolonged periods due to the concentration required for tractor pushing!

We also managed to discover a good old swing at the farm and James certainly loved taking his turn on it!

James takes a little time out with his thoughts while on the swing!

We didn't have a bucket and spade, so we improvised with a good old yoghurt pot and made some "sandcastles".

As had been usual throughout the week, we'd managed to dodge the showers but it still meant that there were plenty of wet places for various body parts to find bits of dampness. Can you guess which bit of James managed to find a puddle here?

James and his Mummy rearrange a few more stones.

So you put the sand in here and then turn it upside down? James gets busy with his building.

Having graduated from sand on to stones, James headed down to the shore line and fills his pot with a few stones.

Daddy hangs on to his son, while James throws stones at the sea. There was a slippery slope down to the sea and James wanted to get as close to the sea as possible!

James points at the waves as they break on the shore. He wasn't too sure about the sea but with the comfort of his Daddy there he managed to spend some good time right on the shore line.

Daddy just managed to rescue James, the hat and himself as a gust came along and caused a bit of panic in the ranks. James doesn't look phased though!

Daddy shows James a good throwing stone and James certainly looks impressed with it!

James then shows Daddy a much better stone. This one even tastes good! Notice that it's already been sucked on the opposite end.

Our final pub dinner of the trip in our local village pub and a quick play before the meal in the garden.

James liked playing on the boat but he much preferred pushing the tricycle around the garden. It's not quite a tractor or the buggy but it'll certainly do!

After watching daddy replacing the batteries, James wanted to have a go himself, turned the train upside down and got to work with the screwdriver!

Dinner time can often be a challenge and finding ever more elaborate ways to get a pudding down James can end up being very creative. Here we see the "I'll open my mouth if you open yours" method in action!

While Mummy went off to a Hen do in London, Daddy, Granny & Grandad were left in charge. We all headed down to the beach at Milford-on-Sea to enjoy the sunshine and breeze.

Once on the beach, James was really happy to play amongst the stones and the sand. I think this picture shows that he's quite happy!

With Granny and Grandad keeping a careful eye on James, they all decided to throw stones at the waves breaking nearby.

Once James found a patch of sand, he immediately began to cover his feet with it like he had done back in Suffolk.

Now watch carefully. Tell me what you see between here...

...and here! James decided that he didn't want to be in the middle any more so he jumped up and then sat next to Granny!

James takes in the sea air and gives a cheeky grin, obviously having a good time even though his Mummy isn't with him!

James and Granny have a little break and watch the world go by for a while.

James loved the steps and after running around on the shingle for a while, plinked himself down on the steps before heading off on another little adventure.

Running along on of the steps was a fairly typical adventure along with climbing up and down them!

Back on the beach, we get down and dirty amongst the stones!

Roll up! Roll up! Come and buy your shoes at James' wonderful new shoe shop! All pairs bought get a free smile!

Another trip down to the beach, so complete with bucket and spade, James decides on his plan of action for the afternoon.

After being shown the basics of sandcastle building, James gets to work on creating one.

James has an assortment of cheeky grins, this toothy one is one of our favourites!

Daddy had built a few sandcastles, but as is standard, James doesn't like to leave any form of "tower" standing so sets about demolishing them!

James has a good look at the tools of the sand manipulation trade.

Seeing as we've established that the spade is as good as his hands for digging with, James sets off to work on digging a good sized hole.

Busy as always, James takes a brief second to show his Daddy just what he's up to!

From time to time we get some very serious looks mixed in with all the grins and smiles. Here's one of James' finest serious faces!

A ready dug hole was the perfect place to sit and carry on his excavation work. We sat here for quite some time perfecting it!

Finally we emerged from the hole and went for another wander. It's quite an effort getting up after being sat in one spot for all that time!

James decided to run down to Daddy near the shore after having played with the stones at the top of the beach. Needless to say after running down the beach he got up quite a head of steam!

Eventually all things come to an end and after lots of digging and stone moving, it was time to head off. But not before hitting the play park and a good go on the swings!

With a little bit of sunshine, we nipped off to the beach again. James contemplates life after having the briefest of paddles. He's still not sure about the sea but seems content with beach life!

After yet another digging session, James takes his bucket and spade back up the beach to put some pebbles into the bucket.

Granny was keen to let James play on the slide so with a helping hand up, James sits at the top, a little apprehensive about what is to come.

We're on our way down and we're still not quite sure about this...

...but now we're whizzing down! This is fun!!!

As is plainly obvious, James loved going down the slide and every time he reached the bottom, he climbed back on and tried to crawl back up to the top for another go!
